I want to live to be a healthy elderly lady who can dance and do yoga at 90. I think most of us want to live to be a healthy older person. Until there are new medical or scientific breakthroughs our life span in the US is approximately 78 years for men and 80 years for women. However we have all seen people older than 80 living a fulfilling active life. What are the secrets to it? I believe that we need to look at our body, mind and spirit together to know what keeps us living longer and healthy. Take a look at what some studies have shown us about living a longer and healthy life.

1. I call this point the 3 Ps. The P stands for positive thinking, purpose and passion. Almost every study done on centurions shows us that people who have a purpose or passion is life fare better than someone who does not. This does not mean that if you were an engineer and retired you cannot have a purpose any longer. Maybe the retired engineer gets into teaching or writing. If you lose your job and are down about the economy you could volunteer at a homeless shelter. Do you see what I am saying? Everyone’s purpose in life is different and can change at different times in your life. The point is it makes you feel fulfilled and anxious to start the day.

As well, almost every research study shows that people who practice optimism live a longer life. Possibly negativity has direct biological effects on our bodies, causing changes in our immune system.

As a side note it also appears as if people who are conscientious tend to have better life-spans and healthier lives. There has been some generalizations that these types of people promote a good and healthy lifestyle based on their personality type.

2. The next point to tell you about is action. There have been numerous studies showing that people who are active cut their risk for age related diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease and muscular problems. A study that compared over 9,000 sets of twins found that the active twin lived better lives than the sedentary twin and that there were some changes in the cellular level of the twin that was sedentary. Furthermore, if adults in their 50s and 60s are regularly active they are 35% less likely to die in the next 8 years than sedentary people. For those with underlying risk factors for heart disease they had a 45% reduction is health problems. Activity can be walking, gardening, dancing or a formal program. The activity though, should be regular and often.

3. Obesity is at an epidemic level in our country. If you are overweight you run an increased risk for heart disease, diabetes type 2, cancers, hypertension, stroke, liver and gallbladder disease, sleep apnea and mobility problems. Losing weight is a hot topic. It is too long to go into for this article but you should be knowledgeable about your food intake, calories, and nutrients. Anti-oxidants should be part of your diet as they kill the free-radicals in our body (which we get from the environment) which increase our aging process.

4. Managing our stress has become very important in our lives today. It is a fact that if you suffer from chronic stress your levels of Cortisol (a hormone) in your body increase which can weaken your immune system. When your immune system is weakened you are more prone to getting diseases that could compromise your health. Many corporate employers and wellness programs have stress management classes seeing the need for stress reduction.

Meditation is one way to relieve your stress. If you meditate for 15 minutes per day it has shown to be more effective than 1 hour of sleep.
Other relaxation techniques may be yoga, imagery, music or biofeedback.
Laughter also reduces stress hormones like adrenalin and cortisol. Laughter also works as a natural pain killer.

If you have a pet you have a natural stress reducer at your feet. Pets trigger a relaxation response which decrease your levels of Cortisol. Patients who are recovering from a major illness are 6 times likely to heal faster and better if they have a pet.

5. Sex is good for us. It gives us a feeling of connection, being appreciated and loved as well as reducing our stress and making us feel relaxed.

5. Learn and practice going with the flow of life’s ups and downs. We all have them and are tested many times in our lives. People who have some sense of spirituality or a belief in something higher, or outside of life forces in this universe sometimes handle this point a little better. But if you have a good support system that can make a big difference as well.

I think it is not as important as to what you have been given in life, as much as what you do with it. We have resources to help us live to a ripe healthy old age. Medical technology has made remarkable progress in the last 100 years and maybe the best is coming. As you can see, I am an optimist.

I have lived more years then I care to think about but thankfully they have all been healthy years. Now this didn’t happen because I have ‘good genes’ (I don’t) or because I got lucky and beat the odds (no such luck), no this happened because I wanted to be healthy so I worked toward that end.

Now you might ask; who doesn’t want to be healthy? Well my friend all you need to do is sit at the mall for 30 minutes on any given Saturday and observe the people walking by and you’ll get your answer. Evidently very few! Obesity is rampant with all it’s related diseases, hospital emergency visits are skyrocketing and disease ridden people flock to the pharmacy in record numbers to stock up on drugs that do nothing to improve their health.

We as a willing society have been duped into health complacency. What I mean by that is individually and collectively we have a herd mentality believing the TV adds and nightly news and the hoards of so called experts telling us what is and isn’t good for our health. We have relinquished our good common sense and the God given healing attributes of the human body. Instead we dutifully get our shots, vaccinations, prescription drugs and bad advice simply because we are told to. Few of us take the time and effort to educate ourselves concerning health issues.

Our health is the singly most important issue facing every human being and yet we act as if it is vogue to be fat and out of shape. We wear our health ineptness with a badge of honor. Paradoxically everyone will tell you if asked ‘I want to be healthy’. So with that assumption in place let me explain a common sense approach to maintaining a healthy life for all your life.

First and foremost you must start thinking for yourself. Question the authorities that put demands on you, not irreverently but with inquisitiveness. Get the answers you need to make your own health decisions.

Decisions must always be made on the basis of your health not what anyone else is doing.

Unless your very serious about being healthy for the rest of your life and willing to do what it takes to succeed you most assuredly won’t. Being completely healthy requires living a lifestyle that is conducive to good health. This isn’t some infomercial to living healthy in 4 easy steps for only $29.99+ shipping and handling. This will have to be a lifetime commitment devoted to staying healthy.

When I say healthy I mean free of disease and debilitating conditions not the common cold (although you won’t get many) or the occasional bug that is going around. Although I must say if your immune system is where it should be even the common flu will have a really hard time infecting you. When you do get sick it will be for a very short time with NO after affects.

It has been nearly 40 years since I visited a doctor and that was for a sore throat. (bad idea)

I have had the flu a few times and a occasional headache but beyond that nothing. My wife is the same way with no health issues. Decidedly I started living my healthy lifestyle as a young adult and never swayed from the path. I firmly believe anyone at any age can benefit from a positive lifestyle change.

The objective is clear and concise; Live Long and Live Healthy.

Some of the things I will list here your going to hate and will immediately stop reading, well at least I got you thinking for yourself. For the rest of you please bear in mind I’m no doctor or medical expert just a person who has lived a relative long life and who has walked the walk and talked the talk. Some things are seemingly simplistic, they aren’t.

1. Personal fortitude with a savage attitude that I am worth the effort to succeed.

2. Never ever succumb to age, treat your body the same at 50 as you would at 30 and it will respond if properly conditioned. (side note): I climb trees, do running sprints, jump off high places all the stuff I did as kid, I never stopped so the body responds.

3. Demand the best for your body don’t settle for anything less. Don’t put anything in or on your body that you wouldn’t want your children to do.

4. The food police will tell you what or what not to eat but I will tell you this, if you eat any food in moderation with abundant variety you will be the better for it. Specifically I eat my share of meat, potatoes, vegetables, fruits and plenty of dessert. Everything is in moderation with all the meat not fried but cooked another way and all vegetables and fruits free of pesticides and chemicals. Eat moderate portions at each meal disciplining yourself not to overeat. Remember we eat to sustain our bodies ability to function properly and for most of us we don’t need much food. I think eating has been made into some grand event where we must eat as much as we can at every sitting. Enjoy your meal but remember you eat because it is a necessity.

5. Drink clean water with absolutely no chemical additives and drink a lot of water.

6. Avoid eating a lot of sugar and use salt in moderation.

7. Packaged food contains preservatives and dyes which are un-natural to the human body.

8. Wash (scrub) fruits and vegetables before eating unless they are organic they will be loaded with chemicals.

9. Frying food is a no no because of cancer causing carcinogens.

10. The overall principal I live with concerning what I put in my body is quite simple,

If it has a man made substance in it such as preservatives o r dyes or any of those long scientific names that are impossible to pronounce then I’m pretty sure I don’t want to eat it.

11. Exercise is good but don’t over do it moderation applies here. I have found cross country walking is a lot of fun and a great exercise for the whole body. Also walking my two golden retriever pups keeps me bouncing up and down. The key here is to stay active EVERYDAY remember this is a life style.

If your able to do outdoor physical work like lawn mowing that is a real plus, enjoy the great outdoors and reap the healthful benefits at the same time.

12. Love life and laugh much and often. Surround yourself with loving family and friends.

13. Stress is a killer so it is vitally important to avoid stressful situations. I firmly believe stress is the number one health concern in our society. Stress places a tremendous burden on our immune system to protect us from disease and with a weakened immune system the door is left wide open for all sorts of health problems.

14. Supplement with all natural supplements.

15. Lastly or perhaps firstly, stand firm in your personal faith.

Now what I have said is all relevant to staying healthy all your life however it would be a hollow existence if I weren’t married to my soul mate and totally committed to our marriage. When you can share your life with the person you love life’s burdens melt away and happiness is easy to find.

I urge you to sign up for a health plan that involves no government help or insurance company premium indeed this health plan involves only you and your commitment to a healthy life style. Why not sign up today!

Our body represents our inner self. Our body and how we treat it shows how much we love and respect ourselves. When we do not take care of ourselves and neglect our body it shows that we do not really care much about ourselves, it shows that we do not love ourselves enough to nurture our body, soul and mind.

Living a well-rounded healthy life is not only important for the health aspect but also because it decides the quality of life we lead, it affects all the aspects of our life. When we do not have a healthy body we cannot concentrate on our work or our relationships, both our professional and our personal lives are bound to suffer.

By living a healthy life not only do we ensure that we are in great physical shape but we also nurture our mind and soul. It is only when the mind, body and soul all work in harmony that we can enjoy life the way it was meant to be.
You must realize that you on your own are responsible for your health, unless you take some steps to improve the way you live nobody else, not even a doctor can make much of a difference. Any change has to begin with you, and to be able to change you must first observe yourself and know what your body says about you. Several times our body gives out signals of distress to us but we fail to listen to them.

You must be in tune with your body and know what it requires and what you need to change in yourself to ensure that you have a healthy body. In order to start you must first get rid of all the habits that have a negative impact on your body:

o Addictions of any kind are a major hindrance to healthy living. You must first try to get rid of smoking, drinking or drug habits.
o Excessive coffee and aerated drinks are also harmful. You must try to cut down on these as much as possible.
o You must make a few changes in our lifestyle as well, frequent late nights and stressful environment harm the body in quite a big way and you must try to make a few changes and lead a simpler lifestyle.

Once you eliminate the negative habits would see a change in yourself. You must not stop there however; you should then incorporate a few healthy habits in your life:

o Always eat healthy, your body needs all its vital nutrients and if you do not provide it that the body cannot function properly.
o Exercise in some form is needed on a regular basis. Joining a gym, a sport or just jogging on a regular basis can make a lot of difference.
o Cultivating a habit that eases your stress levels can be very helpful. Regular meditation or just a hobby of choice can help keep all the tensions and stress away.

It is important to respect your body and lead a healthy life; it can give you a lot of benefits in the long run.

Growing taller is a goal set by those who want to gain more height and to look more attractive. This urge to look attractive and beautiful is very basic and innate in all the human beings. Height is one factor that plays a very important role in gaining an attractive persona. There are those folks as well who have to suffer from a low self esteem due to the fact that they consider themselves not that charming. The good news for all such people is that the height can be increased by gaining the desirable inches and that too by maintaining a healthy life style. Yes, this is a fact that growing taller can be achieved by simply following a healthy life style. You won’t need to go for surgeries and laboratory produced growth hormones rather you need to follow a life pattern and life style that is absolutely healthy and it will help you in gaining more height.

Growing taller isn’t just about going crazy after medicines and pills that raise the slogan of increasing the height. Mostly, these tend to end in no favorable results. On the other hand, you can maintain a healthy life style and can add inches to your height. There are some factors in this regard that you need to keep in mind.

o You are always required to act like a watch dog on your food choices. Health and human growth tend to share a very close relation and this is the same case if you are seeking the goal of growing taller. You should be able to take that type of food and diet that is enriched in all types of nutrients, vitamins and minerals and it will boost your growth hormones to a great extent. No junk food is allowed because the consumed junk food will eat up the stored minerals of the body as well. So, eat healthy in order to follow a healthy life style for growing taller.

o The other thing that you can infuse in your healthy life style is a routine of workout and exercises. Exercises are said to be an integral part of a life style that is being termed as healthy. It is a known fact that physical workouts and exercises do count a lot for better health. In the context of growing taller, there are certain exercises like hanging and stretching which are specifically very help for growing taller.

o Another important segment of a healthy life style is to maintain the due amount of sleep. Taking sound sleep for the required span of time is likely to make to grow taller because in our sleep, our growth hormones become activated. So, with the right choice of diet and regular exercise and workout, the growth hormones become stimulated and these growth hormones become activated when we are asleep. So, sleep well is an essential part of a healthy life style that counts a lot for growing taller as well.

In general healthy life expectancy has increased due to several factors of out lifestyle. During the span of the 20th century, average life expectancy jumped from around 49 years of age in 1901 up to 77 years by the century’s end.

The center for Disease Control and Prevention gives the following as the big reasons for our increased healthy life expectancy:

-Vaccination
-Improvements in motor-vehicle safety
-Workplace Safety
-Better infectious diseases control
-Decline in deaths from coronary heart disease and stroke
-Safer and healthier foods
-Healthier mothers and babies
-Family planning
-Fluoridation of drinking water
-Recognition of tobacco use as a health hazard

Another factor contributing to the increase of average life span has been the drastic reduction in infant mortality rate.

The biggest piece of the life expectancy puzzle missing from their list is the ability to remain free from illness and disease. Modern medicine has become very involved with developing methods to mask symptoms and thus prolong our ability to live with a condition, which has contributed some to increased longevity. However, the person still has the root cause of the illness or disease. And most of the time there are side affects of the treatment the patient must live with, stated as a lesser suffering than the original symptom. The question becomes, is their quality of life actually improved when new symptoms from the treatment are then needed to be treated, it’s more like the symptoms are just transferred and altered but not eliminated. This is because the cause has not been altered.

Remaining healthy is the greatest quality of life and anti-aging strategy that can even increase your healthy life expectancy. Imagine if you were healthy enough not to get seriously sick you would not need to get involved with taking drugs and medicines that many times cause more additional unwanted symptoms that the initial ones. And once on these drugs you are likely never off of them because they don’t actually alter anything that supports the real cause. Doesn’t it make you wonder why our huge medical resources are not applied to stopping or preventing the cause?

There is a school of thought that focuses on the root cause and questions why disease has been allowed to take hold in the body at all. If the body’s immune system is functioning properly, disease should not occur. It is thought that the only way for a disease to take hold is for the body to be in some sort of state that is less than optimal or as it should be. Standard medical therapies such as drugs, surgery, and chemotherapy help mask and even diminish the symptoms but the causative condition is really still there. A surgeon can remove a tumor, but the reason the tumor grew in the first place is not addressed. Through this medical process we have been led to believe that treating an illness or disease is a complicated process that takes time and of course lots of money. But what is usually going on is the masking of symptoms rather than a cure, nor restoration to a state of wellness.

In order to look at enhancing prevention of illness and disease we must change our focus from treating to wellness. Treatment is done after something has happened, wellness keeps it from happening. Actually focusing on wellness can also better serve curing or healing what has occurred better than treating the symptoms because it aims to restore the core cause to a desired healthy state rather than just masking symptoms.

Studies have shown that the problem is at the cellular level where the bodies cells are designed to perform many functions, as long as they are healthy. Two things happen which both work against you. Disease can only thrive in the kind an internal environment that is also not good for your cells. So, your body is in a weakened state and the disease is thriving. Plus, your immune system is weaker too and less able to fight off the disease. When in this condition it is very common for multiple problems to exist at the same time making the immune system choose what to focus it’s reduced abilities on.

While all the areas of life expectancy improvement listed above are important the greatest factor knocking us down is still our general health. If your body is truly healthy and able to do it’s job, it would not be normal to be taking medicine every day, rather an exception. And many would not spend years living with a restricted lifestyle because of debilitating ailments. Doing all you can to enhance your overall wellness is key to quality of life and longevity.

Everyone wants to live a long and healthy life, and there are steps you can take to increase your chances of living a long life. Making healthy choices is the key ingredient to living a long and healthy life. To a large extent, we have control over how healthy our bodies remain throughout our lifetime. Here is a list of 7 simple ways to stay healthy and add years to your life.

1. Breathe Fresh Air. Of course, this includes being a nonsmoker, but it is also important to get lots of fresh air outdoors. Many people spend their entire lives indoors, going from home to the car to the office, and back again. Getting fresh air outdoors is an important health benefit that is often overlooked. Try to spend at least a few minutes outdoors every day: take a walk or plan outdoor activities.
2. Drink More Water. If you say you don’t like drinking plain water, then chances are you spend much of your life in a state of dehydration, and that is unhealthy. Try to drink between 6-8 glasses of water every day, besides coffee, tea, and soft drinks. Chances are that adding more water to your daily regimen will help you feel better and have more energy.
3. Sleep Between 6-7 hours Every Night. Getting a good night’s sleep is essential to good health, but it is also important to get the right amount of sleep. Researchers have found that those who sleep more than 8 hours or less than 4 hours a night are not as healthy as those who sleep 6-7 hours a night.
4. Eat Fruits and Vegetables. It is common in American society to eat an entire day’s worth of meals and consume very little fruits and vegetables. This bad habit has an adverse effect on your health. Meals eaten at home contain more fruits and vegetables than those consumed in restaurants. So try eating more meals at home, and when on the go try to take some fruit with you.
5. Restrict Alcohol Consumption. If you drink alcohol, restrict it to one drink per day. Drinking more than 2 drinks daily has been shown to have an adverse effect on health. Some studies have shown that drinking red wine is beneficial, but you still should keep it to no more than one drink per day.
6. Eat High Fiber Foods Daily. Diets that are high in fiber have been shown to help reduce high blood pressure, avoid high blood sugar, and help with elimination. High fiber foods include whole grain breads and pasta, fruits, beans and legumes.
7. Exercise Daily. Researchers are finding that exercise plays a huge part in overall health. Those who exercise regularly have been found to be much more likely to lead healthier lives and live longer than those who do not exercise.

These are simple life changes you can start to work on now to make big changes in health as you get older. You don’t have to change everything at once. Try working on one item at a time and then once you have made it a habit, go on to another item. These simple life choices can pay big dividends over the years and add happy and healthy years to your life.

You can be Healthy at any age.

You will learn 4 success tips to creating the healthy life
you desire. You are not here to just survive life, but to make
a difference in your life in the lives of others. YOU deserve to be healthy.

I know some would disagree with that last statement, but
everyone does deserve to be healthy in every area of their life. We may
hits some bumps along the way or we may get a few bruises, but overall
you do deserve the best life possible. A Healthy Life.

Step 1 on your journey to a healthy life: Remember that your
emotional health, the real you on the inside, is probably more important
than the way others see you. You know, people cannot read your heart,
but you know your heart. When you speak to yourself inside your head–
How much is negative? and how much talk is positive?
Three of the greatest words to tell yourself each day is “I LOVE YOU!

Step 2: A healthy life begins on the inside. Now that you have
the first step down, then continue on to the next step. Rid yourself of
people that put you down or are negative towards you. They are not
worth having as friends or acquaintances. You deserve better friends.
Friends that speak the truth in love. They love you for who you are.

Step 3: A life of health and wellness requires putting the right
foods in your kitchen cabinets and at your place of work. People that desire
to be healthy will be attracted to you. You will become a magnet. As you move
towards eating the right kinds of foods, people that eat that same food
will take notice of you. You won’t have those sugar highs and lows throughout
the day nd you will move towards your ideal weight effortlessly.

Step 4: Be grateful for the little things in life. A smile (this is
really a big thing). A healthy life is one in which joy and thankfulness are
at the root of your very being. When you appreciate others and tell them.
They will respect you and will come to appreciate you and sincerity.

Being Healthy is so important. Lets change one thing in our life today.
Think well of yourself, do things that are best for you, say what you mean
and always be thankful. Have a Healthy Life beginning now.
